Cisco are clearly looking to get into the consumer market with the release of details about their Home Energy Management platform (HEM). Early reports suggest a price tag of £600 ($900) although it’s thought that most of the cost of this will be met by the utility companies. There is as yet no detail on release to the UK market.

Clearly based around an Openpeak product, the OpenFrame 7 the same company that supplied o2 with their joggler hardware platform.
The Cisco HEM has the following specs:
- 7″ Capacitive Touchscreen 800 x 480 pixels
- 1.1 Ghz Atom Processor
- Ubuntu MID linux distribution
- Flash based widget
- Zigbee capability.
